Types of Vein Disorders

  • Spider Telangectasias
  • Varicose veins
  • Chronic Venous Insufficiency

DEFINITIONS:

Spider Telangectasias (spider veins): small veins that can be associated with burning, swelling, throbbing, cramping and leg fatigue.

Varicose veins: larger veins that tend to cause more symptoms than spider veins and also have a dilated ropey appearance. The symptoms from these veins are often described as a dull ache that worsens with prolonged periods of standing.

Chronic Venous Insufficiency: This is the most severe form of the disease and can lead to changes in the skin color, dermatitis, swelling, scar tissue formation in the skin and even the fat below the skin as well as the formation of actual ulcers in the skin. Chronic venous insufficiency tends to affect the lower ½ of the leg, especially the tissues near the ankle.
